C.1. LONG ANSWER QUESTIONS

Ans:- The poet, Walt Whitman, is also known as father of free verse. The poem starts with a joyous note where the poet says that he celebrates himself and whatever he says needs to be accepted by others too because they are made up of same atoms, grown up by same soil and air. The poet is loafing around and observe the speary grass in summer. Though poet is thirty-seven, age where most people are stresses and sick, poet is healthy and wishes to remain healthy till he dies. He does not want to be restrained by religious believes so he also does not want to follow them. The poet believes in both good and bad and he is not afraid to speak at every dangerous situation for he believes that beauty of nature lies with its unpredictable nature.

2) What similarities does the poet draw between two human beings?

Ans:- Poet very cleverly draws the relation or connection between two human beings with various examples. At first, the poet says that every atom he is made up of are the atom everybody else is also made up of. Then he also says that two humans also share same blood. After this the poet explains how everyone has grown up in the same soil and same air.

3) Explain the line: ‘Hoping to cease not till death’

Ans:- In the rat race of the world, humans often tend to forget about themselves. All they work for and whatever they do is for someone else or they do it for acceptance in society or to be regarded as someone of high profile. But they don’t think about themselves. On the other hand, poet has found the mantra for happy life and he says he will never stop thinking about himself.

4) Comment on the subjectivism (personal feeling) in the poem.

Ans:- The subjectivism of the poem is clear, it is all about self-love, self-care and the peace of mind that lies with them. The poet is thirty-seven years old, where most of the stop living their life and live for others and their acceptance. Poet does not care about it. What he cares is all about himself and his happiness.

5) Why does the poet not want to bother himself with ‘Creeds and schools’?

Ans:- By hook or by crook, by will or not, the world of humans revolves around the society and the society we live in has created a difference among us. Society has divided us in groups and hierarchies of cast and creed. We tend to discriminate each other in terms of it. The poet believes every human has a relation of blood and all have same atoms in their bodies, hence it is senseless to bother with ‘creeds and schools.’

6) What does the poet mean by ‘Nature without check with original energy’?

Ans:- The phrase ‘Nature without check with original energy’ means that nature is unpredictable and poet is not afraid of his actions and the consequences that lies with them. As it is a fact, unpredictable things contain danger with them, poet is not afraid of it. Rather beauty of nature lies with the unpredictability because that is what original nature is.

a) Religion does not teach hatred.

Religions are a way to communicate to God. It never teaches hatred or jealousy rather it is the people who follow these religions and spread hatred. These people find their religion superior to the others and spread hatred in the name of religion. It is the people who follow religion and created hierarchy of social discrimination. They target other religions, brainwash other sensible people of their community and spread jealousy and hatred all around. After targeting, they become the victim. It also helps them in creating a political agenda. Becoming the victim and receiving votes. The blind people of one religion community make others of their religion blind too and consequently people of other religion become blind too and do the same, spreading hatred and jealousy all around.

b) Life is a grand battle

Life is not at all easy. You must work hard at every step in this world in order to survive. It is a rat race, if you feel exhausting and stop, you will go far behind than many. Even a child must work hard and study in order to get praising else he would just be scolded and hear tantrums. From young age, people ignore small happiness and run for big achievements and big success. They run and run and run until they realize the importance of those small events of life but till then it is too late. They become old and fragile, old age is the age of suffering. At this age only last distress is the way to attain enlightenment. So, in order to survive the world, you must be a fighter, a warrior who never stops. At the same time, do not miss the opportunity of small things in your life. Do enjoy them for this battle is never going to stop.
