Euclid’s postulates in Class 9 maths chapter 5

  1. Postulate I: A straight line may be drawn from one point to another point (While Euclid does not mention it an addendum can be made – 5.1: There is a unique line for two distinct points)
  2. Postulate II: A terminated line (now called a line segment) can be produced indefinitely.
  3. Postulate III: A circle can be drawn with any centre and any radius
  4. Postulate IV: All right angles are equal to one another.
  5. Postulate V: If a line is drawn over two straight lines, then the two lines will intersect upon extending along the side where the interior angles formed in between the pair of lines and the line drawn over them are less than two right angles that are 180o. The angles A and B are less than 180o.
